Luigi Garlaschelli, a professor of chemistry at Pavia University, as quoted by Michael Day writing in The Independent:
The implications are… that the image was formed by a burst of UV energy so intense it could only have been supernatural. But I don’t think they’ve done anything of the sort.
Done anything of what sort?
If you think that was bad, the headline is in The Independent is “Scientists say Turin Shroud is supernatural.”
Hey anyone notice how Garlaschelli looks strikingly similar to the face on his shroud reproduction? And what the? They’ve done nothing of the sort? LOL. Some of the comments and headlines coming out on this story…You just gotta laugh and enjoy it. ;-)

All this extrapolation (supernatural process) is just a joke.
Sounds as if the professor was misquoted or only partially quoted by Michael Day. It may not be Luigi Garlaschelli’s fault.
You may be right Annie, but that doesn’t mean we can’t poke fun at the guy. He does look like a “wild and crazy guy”, with emphasis on the crazy ;-)

I’ve once saw here in Quebec a teleseries about the Christian’s relics (very interesting) and I was surprised (and not so surprised in a sense) to see this guy Garlaschelli who was trying to debunk another Christian relic in Italy !!! It’s a fiol of the blood of Saint Januarius that liquefy once a year. You can read more on this saint here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Januarius
Look like our friend Garlaschelli is the Joe Nickell of Italy !!! A professional miracle and relic debunker ! And you know what I think ? It’s good that there is people like that because if there was not, people would be like those of the Middle Ages when every relics were considered authentic and almost every healing was considered an act of God ! And, for the Shroud, those guys forces the pro-authenticity to work more precisely.
But guys like Nickell’s and Garlaschelli can and do hurt the studies of the Shroud, and in a big way! Do you know how many times I’ve heard people “ignorantly’ reference them in thier arguments against the Shroud? …There are alot of simple minds out there that would and do take these guys seriously and hang on to every word they say!!. People like Nickells and Garlaschelli are a huge hurdle to these people understanding the scientific truths about the Shroud, and unfortunately even the media still see it worthy to get thier opinions….go figure!
