A paper by Jack Markwardt referring to the early Christians’ “Discipline of the Secret” notes that they gave strict obedience to Christ’s commandment: “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you”.[Matthew 7:6 (the Sermon on the Mount). ]
Some assurance of good faith is required before undertaking any such debate I feel!
I read that passage from Christ himself, and instantly the fiasco of 1988-89 comes to mind.
