What you failed to note from Lightman’s piece in Salon is that many scientists are deeply religious and particularly Christian. I had always thought otherwise until I encountered some of the scientists involved in shroud studies. I now laugh when I hear that “true believers” think one thing and “scientists” think something else – about the shroud – about evolution – about the universe.
Ultimately, this may be the shroud’s most certain message.
