Every now and then a top list, usually a top ten list, appears in the media or on some blog. Every one is different and this one, a top eleven list from CNN, is no exception. CNN begins its article, History’s big mysteries: Questionable deaths, missing people, monsters:
(CNN) — The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 could take its place at the top of the biggest unsolved mysteries of history.
"This is a very strange event," aviation historian Carroll Gray said. "It doesn’t lend itself to the normal sets of explanations."
Such mysteries are "phenomenally gripping," Gray said. "Things that are unsolved just sort of grab people, especially when you have the common experience of flying."
Answers about what happen to the Boeing 777 and the people on board must come soon, he said. "When you get on the plane the next time, are you going to wonder a little bit about whether you are going to disappear?"
A look at history’s biggest mysteries
But history holds tight to some secrets, leaving us with just speculation, conspiracy theories and educated guesses. A mystery can have a long life, never forgotten and often re-examined.
This is CNN’s list:
- Who shot JFK and RFK?
- The mystery of Marilyn Monroe
- Was Natalie Wood’s death an accident or murder?
- What happened to Amelia Earhart?
- Where is Jimmy Hoffa?
- Who was Jack the Ripper?
- The ghost ship Mary Celeste
- What’s the deal with the Bermuda Triangle?
- Are Big Foot, Sasquatch or Yeti for real?
- Is the Loch Ness Monster a real creature?
- Was the Shroud of Turin the burial cloth for Jesus?
And this is the wholly inadequate description of the shroud:
The Shroud of Turin may be the most famous religious relic.
Some Christians believe the shroud, which appears to bear the imprint of a man’s body, to be Jesus Christ’s burial cloth. The body appears to have wounds that match those the Bible describes as having been suffered by Jesus on the cross.
Many scholars contest the shroud’s authenticity, saying it dates to the Middle Ages, when many purported biblical relics — such as splinters from Jesus’ cross — surfaced across Europe. Even the Roman Catholic Church does not insist the shroud was used to wrap the body of Jesus. Its official position is that the shroud is an important tool for faith regardless of its authenticity.
Just before stepping aside as Pope a year ago, Benedict XVI authorized the broadcast of video of the shroud from Turin Cathedral, where the mysterious Christian relic is kept out of sight in a bulletproof, climate-controlled glass case.
I am one of the Catholics who believes that the Shroud is the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.
The description I think bears that the writer has no idea and is just trying to report. It could be written a little better.
I wonder where they would rate the collapse of WTC7 on 9/11.
The WTC collapse of 9/11 is not a mystery, just ask any Muslim about one of their greatest hits against the so-called Infidels.
You’ve got me curious, ek. What exactly does every Muslim think they hit WTC7 with?
Oh, it just occurred to me, ek, that maybe you haven’t seen footage of the collapse of WTC7, the third skyscraper that collapsed on 9/11. This is a good compilation of different views of it:

Bin laden did it and would do it again if given the chance. I can’t believe people still believe in these conspiracy theories. Watch his own confession..

Notice, also, the unfortunate placement of a particular Shroud under the Bigfoot, the Sasquatch, the Yeti, and a Loch Ness Monster…
Draw your own conclusions what you will…
Hi M,
Yes, but exactly how did Osama bring down WTC7?
The NIST investigated the collapse of WT7 and their report found no evidence supporting conspiracy theories (that it was brought down by controlled demolition.). If you don’t believe them that’s ok, I Do. Let’s agree to disagree.
Not that you need it I agree 100%.
Hi Mike,
So the official explanation of who assassinated JFK is Lee Harvey Oswald; RFK’s is Sirhan Sirhan; the Shroud of Turin is a 14th century forgery; and WTC7 is anything but a controlled demolition. On this last one over 2,100 architects and engineers and I will agree to disagree with you and NIST:

Julian, This is the shroudstory blog. The shroudstory doesn’t compare to any other story and I only like to invest my time in that story because it relates to the most important person in my life. I am not interested in JFK and 9/11 inside job stuff. As I said before let’s just agree to disagree.
Hi Mike,
Yes, this is the Shroud Story Blog, which is a blog that is willing to question what is perceived by the majority of people to be the correct view of what the Shroud was. I, too, question the majority view on the Shroud, and have learned much by visiting this blog. But I’m willing to question the majority view on other matters, especially when a large group of experts also question the majority view. I’m willing to let the matter rest there, though I’m curious: what is your criteria for when to question the majority view and when not to question it?
My criteria to judge anything in life is scripture for spiritual matters then hard evidence for scientific matters. The number of people who believe in something has absolutely no impact on my judgement.
The question of the shroud’s authenticity to me is a scientific question. I don’t believe in the shroud because I am a christian and I don’t believe in Jesus because I believe in the shroud. To me it’s a scientific question and I believe the evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of an authentic burial shroud of the historic Jesus. like the agnostic scientist Yves Delage declared “If, instead of Christ, there were a question of some person like a Sargon, an Achilles or one of the Pharaohs, no one would have thought of making any objection”
I don’t believe that 9/11 was an inside job because:
1- there is absolutely no evidence it is an inside job, only speculations.
2- there is a lot of evidence that its not. Confession tapes by the leader and team members of the operation. Training courses for flying but not landing or taking off, testimonies from people who interacted with the perpetrators. Money transfers, video tapes, documents recovered from Afghanistan and Pakistan etc.
3-it makes sense to be a terrorist operation. Islamic extremists are among the most evil people you will ever run to in this life. Absolutely no regard to life. They still blowup and behead people today in Syria, iraq, Egypt, Lybia, Nigeria, Somalia and Phillipines. (see the link below. I would advise you to open the first video only which is someone recounting his testimony. I didn’t open the following videos because I don’t like watching these things). Beheadings, Explosions and flying body parts are their hallmarks, their fingerprints are all over 9/11. I lived in the Middle East most of my life. I was living in UAE when 9/11 happened, I saw people at work and in the streets celebrating the “death of the Americans”.
4-it doesn’t make sense to be an inside job. I don’t believe that people would do that to their own country, their own people. For what?

Hi Mike,
First, like you I am a Christian, but not because of the Shroud, nor do I believe the Shroud is authentic because I am a Christian. I probably haven’t studied it as much as you, but when the radiocarbon date came out to be the 14th century, I was puzzled, since we still had the mystery of how the image was formed. But I accepted that it was a forgery, since the hard scientific evidence seemed to prove that it was. It was only when I discovered this website (a year ago?) that I found out that there is strong reason to contest the radiocarbon dates. Now I only wish new tests would be conducted to lay to rest any doubts about the date. If it turns out to be authentic, then I suspect God preserved the Shroud for significant reasons, such as a testament to the existence of Jesus at a time when Mythicists are enjoying so much renewed popularity.
As to 9/11, once I found out that there is a significant number of building experts who reject the official explanation for the collapses of all three WTC buildings, that was enough for me to question the official account. Until there is a new, independent investigation, I won’t be satisfied.
It is irrelevant whether the terrorists flew planes into the WTC1 and 2. The question remains, what brought them and WTC7 down ? AE911truth maintains that it was controlled demolitions, and there is at least some physical data that seems to support their contention. If they are correct, then we can ask other questions, such as who, how, and why? Given the tremendous increases in defense and security spending that has been justified by 9/11, along with the tremendous increases in power for the intelligence community, I think it’s rather easy to find motives for 9/11, besides just terrorism.
Like the Shroud, I suspect that God made sure WTC7 happened in plain sight (there is some evidence that it was originally intended to bring it down while the dust clouds from WTC1 or 2 would have made viewing WTC7’s collapse impossible) for those willing to follow the truth wherever it might lead:
Hi Julian, I too hope the shroud gets tested again. At least the samples that weretaken during the 2002 restoration. The 9/11 case I find to be much weaker, frankly I think its a big distraction because it keeps people’s eyes off their real enemies.
I think President Eisenhower would have warned you to keep your eyes on all your enemies, including the military/industrial complex:
I thought I posted a link to a youtube video of President Eisenhower’s warning about the military/industrial complex, yesterday. I don’t see it today, which I think means that Dan deleted it. But just in case he didn’t delete it, and I just goofed somehow, I’ll try one more time. If it isn’t there tomorrow, I’ll take the hint.
