Man of Pain – The Holy Shroud on YouTube

Get a cup of coffee and sit back to watch this. Running time 1 hours and 3 minutes.

This documentary takes a balanced view as it weaves its way through the labyrinth of similarities between the Gospel accounts and the iconography of Jesus Christ. There is documentary evidence that the Shroud, venerated in France as early as 1350, is the Shroud we see today preserved in Turin. The documentary takes the historical high ground as it presents the places, the written evidence, the changes of ownership, the various expositions and the first 1898 photograph that changed everything — bringing the Holy Shroud into the realm of modern science and to worldwide attention for the very first time. The documentary reports on the first examinations of the fabric and the imprint left on it by the body of a dead man who had been tortured and crucified. It describes the discovery of red blood cells and pollen traces, carbon-14 dating, and computerized image processing. The Man of Pain: The Holy Shroud was the Official Documentary of the 1998 Holy Shroud Exposition Committee and was granted the right to use the Vatican’s Jubilee 2000 logo. It is the only documentary to present High Definition footage of the private exposition which took place on June 25, 1997 — the only film to be shot since the fire that badly damaged Guarini’s Chapel. This film was made with the assistance of Archdiocesan’s experts, and includes footage shot in Jerusalem, the church of St. Catherine of Sinai, Edessa, Istanbul, Lirey, St. Hyppolyte, and Chambery. Updated: “Jesus, the Lost 40 Days” the History Channel April 20

imageAs posted earlier, Jesus: The Lost 40 Days will premiere on April 20 at 9:00 PM ET in the U.S. on History (The History Channel).

The description of the show has been updated. It now includes references to and information about the Shroud of Turin. The show is scheduled to run for 2 hours (96 minutes without commercials):

JESUS: THE LOST 40 DAYS fills in the gaps in the historical record. According to the Bible, Jesus came back from the dead and walked the earth for 40 days before ascending to heaven. But the New Testament reveals little about this defining miracle of the Christian faith. Using tools of history, technology, science and faith, HISTORY tells the little-known story. Long-buried non-Biblical sources, such as the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, the Secret Revelation of John and the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus yield astonishing information and detail about these seemingly lost 40 days.

Could Jesus’ words in these ancient manuscripts contain some of his most important teachings, even though they were not included in the New Testament? The producers also build upon the CGI image of the crucified Christ created from the Shroud of Turin in The Real Face of Jesus to visually depict the moments when Jesus appears to his followers in resurrected form. David Rolfe and his Latest Shroud of Turin Film to be in Beaconsfield on Good Friday

image

The Combined Churches of Beaconsfield (Anglicans, Catholics, Baptists, Methodists and Congregationalists) are featuring the film “Shroud” at the conclusion of their parade through the town on Good Friday, 2011. It will be shown, in the Town Hall at noon and 14:30. Admission is free but seats can be reserved by emailing stthomas.holtspur@gmail.com. The film’s producer, David Rolfe, will be on hand to introduce the film and answer any questions.

I strongly recommend this wonderful film. I have been remiss in not posting a review yet. For now, let me say it is wonderful.

“Jesus, the Lost 40 Days” is Officially on the History Channel Schedule

imageJesus: The Lost 40 Days will premiere on April 20 at 9:00 PM ET on History (U.S.)  The description says nothing more than, “According to the Bible, Jesus Christ spent 40 days on Earth after his Resurrection on that first Easter”

But, as I mentioned earlier, A&E’s shopping site is reporting that a DVD will be available in June 1, 2011. Here is the link: Jesus: The Lost 40 Days. There you will find this description:

According to the Bible, Jesus Christ spent 40 days on Earth after his Resurrection on that first Easter Sunday before ascending to Heaven. Astonishingly, the New Testament is practically silent on what happened during this period. Why are only a few scattered paragraphs devoted to perhaps the central, most defining and miraculous event in Christianity? And most importantly, what did Jesus do and say during those incredible 40 days?

JESUS: THE LOST 40 DAYS is a new investigation into history’s rare, long-buried non-Biblical sources to seek and fill in this missing time period. The Gospel of Thomas, the Gnostic Gospels, the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus, and the Gospel of Nicodemus are among the alternate, historical sources that yield astonishing information and detail about Jesus’ lost 40 days.

This follows the U.S. History Channel showing of “The Real Face of Jesus?” at 10pm EDT on April 16.

A search by title of the Australian and New Zealand History site returns a page announcing a premier showing of “Jesus: The Lost 40 Days,” at 10:00 pm on April 22. Here is a link.

The Real Face of Jesus? — Again

imageThe History Channel is showing this highly acclaimed show again at 10pm EDT on April 16. So far, the schedule for 2011 has only been published out to April 18, so we can’t know if it will be shown again during Lent or Eastertide. From the History Channel’s website:

As the Shroud of Turin is put on public display for the first time in 10 years, new data reveals more than just a flat image embedded in the ancient cloth, but an astonishing, three-dimensional, sculpture-like figure. Using the principles of physics, cutting-edge digital technology, and the revolutionary CGI process pioneered in Stealing Lincoln’s Body, HISTORY brings that image to life, unveiling the most accurate representation ever seen of what many believe to be Jesus Christ.

Laugh Warning: Shroud of Turin to be Used for the Staged Second Coming of Christ

Hasn’t this guy not figured out the fact that if he was right then the Satin worshipping, new world order, shadow government evil doers he is warning us about would have eliminated him and made sure his video never made it onto YouTube. Enjoy, at least for two or three minutes. He should give wacky Dr. David Sullivan some competition. You might want to put on a tin foil hat before watching:

More: Better than a Saturday Night Live Skit

A reader writes.

If this was part 2 it would seem to me that there was a part 1. This is almost as funny.

Okay, here it is. Scroll down to the previous posting for part 2 (in part 2 Sullivan is wearing something like a bad version of a clerical collar. Part 2 was new and it caught my attention. Thanks for pointing this out. Have fun. This guy is whacked.

Better than a Saturday Night Live Skit

This is funny. Watch Dr. David Sullivan, author of Bible Babble Bull, as he tries to inform you about the shroud  His facts about the shroud are amazingly screwed up. His attempts to appear unbiased are downright silly. He covers the carbon dating but doesn’t understand what he is talking about. He tells us Walter McCrone found red vanillin? Red vanillin? There is no such thing. He discusses Benford and Marino, Rogers, etc. His attempt, near the end of the video, to be something like SNL’s Father Guido Sarducci is painfully funny.

Real Face of Jesus Is Getting More and More Popular

This show is now available in its entirety on at least 3 warez sites. That’s not a surprise. But why? You can download a perfectly acceptable legal copy of the full show for $3.95 at iTunes.  And if you must have a DVD, is 24.95 (less at Amazon) too much for such an outstanding show.

If you have an Amazon Video account, which is free, and a TIVO or Google TV setup (or for that matter any computer on a broadband connections) you can watch the entire show without commercial interruption for $1.95. Is that too much to pay to not cheat with a warez download.

You can watch it this Wednesday on History International. Check local listings. On the East Coast it will be shown at 10:00 pm. If you need a free copy, record it on your DVR.

What is the Internet?

As Barrie Schwortz celebrates fifteen years of shroud.com it is amusing to ponder the state of the public’s awareness about the Internet. Perhaps more people understood the Shroud of Turin. Here we see Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric, just two years before Barrie launched his website discussing how NBC News asked viewers to send  feedback via e-mail. They were confused about the @ symbol and what the internet was.

British First Showing of the new David Rolfe Shroud of Turin film

imageIf you are nearby, do go. According to the Beaconsfield paper there will be a showing of the 2010 Exposition of the Shroud of Turin Thursday, January 20 at St Michael’s Anglican Church. David Rolfe, the head of the production company that produced the film will provide a talk.

The showing at St Michael’s on St Michael’s Green starts at 7.30pm. Admission is free but seats can be reserved for £5 by emailing jean@bddesign.co.uk

imageFor more information contact the Rev’d Camilla Walton (pictured) at the parsonage.

According to Rolfe (and I quite agree):

The Shroud of Turin is either the most awesome and instructive relic of Jesus Christ in existence or one of the most unbelievably clever products of the human mind and hand on record. It is one or the other. There is no middle ground.

Live Demon-Purging Ride-Alongs?

Entertainment Weekly is reporting:

imageDiscovery Channel is teaming with the Vatican for an unprecedented new series hunting the deadliest catch of all: Demons.

The Exorcist Files will recreate stories of real-life hauntings and demonic possession, based on cases investigated by the Catholic Church. The project includes access into the Vatican’s case files, as well as interviews with the organization’s top exorcists — religious experts who are rarely seen on television.

. . . If the show’s first season is successful, the network hopes its partnership with the Church will pave the way for producers GoGo Luckey to take the series to the next level — joining Catholic investigators on live demon-purging ride-alongs.

Maybe if the show’s first season is successful we won’t need to watch anymore of the Discovery Channel’s Leonardo da Vinci did it docufiction about the Shroud of Turin.
