Russ Breault tells us on his Shroud University website:
Experts from around the world met in St. Louis, MO for the first US conference on the Shroud of Turin since 2008. Here are over 40 papers covering aspects of science, medicine, art and history. Hear and see the latest research in streaming video.
The following presentations from the St. Louis Conference can now be found on YouTube. Links to them, as shown below, are from Russ’s site:

The Full Length History of the Shroud of Turin
This site is still in progress. The audio levels are very low. You will have to crank up the volume very high to hear. I will be re-editing each one to raise the audio levels. As a result the links may change. Not exactly sure when all this will be complete–probably a couple weeks. Thank God for tech-savvy teenagers who will work for $10/hr or none of this would happen.
AWESOME Russ, This work was instrumental, informative, and invaluable!
Also, if you get no audio at all, make sure your flash player is not on mute. Put your curser over the speaker icon and it should tell you if it is muted or not.
Thanks, Russ. Thanks for the preliminary versions. We will look forward to the improved versions. Keep me informed so I can pass on the information to everyone. We all much appreciate the work you are doing.
I tried to increase the volume, checking the settings and volume level but nothing could be done as everything was OK. Only the clapping could be heard.
That is what many are experiencing. It varies. I am seriously bummed. We will have to pull each one into an edit program, raise the audio levels and then repost to Youtube. I think the first thing to do is take them all down and gradually replace them as we get them edited. Thanks for your input.
This is a wonderful means of knowing at least something of what went on in Saint Louis for all those who did not attend the conference. I noted that Dr. Joseph Accetta was not on the list and wondered why this was so and trust the sound problem will be solved soon.
Hmmm. He should be on the list. I will check into that and make the addition. Thanks for letting me know.
Great, Russ. Dr. Accetta is a highly-qualified scientist and it would be nice to know what he said. There were no patents in the medieval age, so one must know from where Gutenberg and Caxton learnt their craft — just a joke!
I don’t know if it’s just me, but the sound quality doesn’t seem to be very good.
And what about Thibault’s presentation on the chain of custody of Rogers’ C14 samples?
Well, I wonder… I was there and made my presentation.
I don’t remember if Russ was sleeping :-)
But, it’s not really important.
You’ll have the entire paper in the next update of shroud.com..soon.
Ok, because as far as i could hear Bob’s presentation, he seemed no longer confident in the chain of custody, but i may have misunderstood his speech.
I don’t think so. Bob clearly reported that Rogers maintained a strict chain of custody on everything he had.
In my paper, I have shown that there is little doubt that the Raes and radiocarbon Rogers’ samples are both genuine Shroud samples. And more…
First, we can conclude that the 2008 Bob Villareal paper concluding that the Raes threads are made of cotton (and not linen) is no longer reliable. At the time, they had no ancient/processed linen for comparison.
“However ageing/processing of linen can dramatically change the spectral characteristics. This make it very difficult to conclusively identify an unknown sample”.
This explains the discrepancies between Bob’s 2008 paper and my own findings: the large majority of Raes 7 (one of the threads studied by Bob) is made of linen fibers although 10-20% of the fibers are cotton.
Bob’s problem is that the properties of the threads/fibers analysed by FTIR etc. seem to be very different from of piece to another.
So, he is very “confused”.
Bob: “The Shroud data were highly variable. Some fibers appeared very similar to the ancient linen standards. Other were (more ?) similar to modern cotton or processed linen ..”
Is it not what is expected from a “mixture” of threads in this area?
I am waiting for the precise data of Bob’s paper.
“… You don’t know where it comes from, you don’t know what the history of it is, you don’t know who has had this sample… It’s a mystery how we can get anything to agree with these samples if we don’t have of those parameters…”
You’ve pointed the problem came from the composite nature of the threads.
Have they tried to analyse individual fibers since 2008?
Because it looks like he is reinterpreting his 2008 paper wihtout new analyses.
Bob:”You don’t know where it comes from, you don’t know what the history of it is, you don’t know who has had this sample… It’s a mystery how we can get anything to agree with these samples if we don’t have of those parameters…”
Well, I think the answers are in my paper.
“Have they tried to analyse individual fibers since 2008?
Because it looks like he is reinterpreting his 2008 paper without new analyses.”
That’s why I wish to look at his paper.
I was there during Bob’s presentation but I must confess that many things were not clear for me because of my poor understanding of spoken English …
Thibault, unfortunately I had a tape failure with your talk. My apologies but I won’t have a video of your presentation. Thankfully Barrie will publish your paper on Shroud.com
