Shroud of Turin Described
The Shroud is a 14½ foot long, 3½ foot wide linen cloth that bears the ventral and dorsal image of a scourged, crucified man. Owned by the Dukes of Savoy (former ruling family of Italy) until the late 1980′s and now the property of the Catholic Church, it has been permanently kept in Turin, Italy, since 1578.

It is stored in a special reliquary in a chapel behind the altar in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The cathedral was erected specifically to house the Shroud and was built adjoining the Royal Palace (the King’s former residence) in Turin.

Is the Shroud real? Probably.
The Shroud of Turin may be the real burial cloth of Jesus. The carbon dating, once seemingly proving it was a medieval fake, is now widely thought of as suspect and meaningless. Even the famous Atheist Richard Dawkins admits it is controversial. Christopher Ramsey, the director of the Oxford Radiocarbon Laboratory, thinks more testing is needed. So do many other scientists and archeologists. This is because there are significant scientific and non-religious reasons to doubt the validity of the tests. Chemical analysis, all nicely peer-reviewed in scientific journals and subsequently confirmed by numerous chemists, shows that samples tested are chemically unlike the whole cloth. It was probably a mixture of older threads and newer threads woven into the cloth as part of a medieval repair. Recent robust statistical studies add weight to this theory. Philip Ball, the former physical science editor for Nature when the carbon dating results were published, recently wrote: “It’s fair to say that, despite the seemingly definitive tests in 1988, the status of the Shroud of Turin is murkier than ever.” If we wish to be scientific we must admit we do not know how old the cloth is. But if the newer thread is about half of what was tested – and some evidence suggests that – it is possible that the cloth is from the time of Christ.
No one has a good idea how front and back images of a crucified man came to be on the cloth. Yes, it is possible to create images that look similar. But no one has created images that match the chemistry, peculiar superficiality and profoundly mysterious three-dimensional information content of the images on the Shroud. Again, this is all published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
We simply do not have enough reliable information to arrive at a scientifically rigorous conclusion. Years ago, as a skeptic of the Shroud, I came to realize that while I might believe it was a fake, I could not know so from the facts. Now, as someone who believes it is the real burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth, I similarly realize that a leap of faith over unanswered questions is essential.

Jesus was scourged so bad his kidneys were destroyed causing Uremic Poisoning like in burn victims the body fluids aren’t filtered and mix with the blood then oozed out of Jesus dead corpse mixed with burial spices causing the shrouds impression.. Simple like Jesus the devil is difficult..
This hypothesis is VERY interesting and I’ve never seen a real study about that. I would love to see some biochemist do some experiments about that. If the urea was present in great quatity in the sweat (that was surely present in also great quantity for a tortured victim like Jesus), it is possible to think that, after death, the sweat dried off while leaving on the skin urea residues. Then, after the body was put in the Shroud, it is possible to think there would have been some molecular transfers between this urea that would have been present on the skin (and also on the hair, beard and mustache) and the thin layer of impurity described by Ray Rogers. In this context, it is possible to expect some kind of chemical reactions between those products in order to create the body image we see on the Shroud. In the present state of our knowledge, I don’t see any good reason to completely reject this hypothesis… Sorry, but I really think that more researches need to be done in this field in order to completely reject this posibility.
We also can create a very good fake with a tortured corpse covered in urine (BTW prolonged exposure to moisture from sweat, urine + hyperthermia might well be.the key factors to account for the Jospice mattress image).
(But if proved true, this.would be very bad publicity for J.)
Correction: (BTW prolonged exposure to moisture from sweat, urine and/or faeces + hyperthermia might well be.the key factors to account for the Jospice mattress image).
If I were michael, I won’t be so sure “Simple like Jesus the devil is difficult.”…
I don’t know much about these things, but even I can answer that canard: body fluids would saturate the fibers, but they are not saturated with whatever makes up the substance of the image: the fibers are affected on one side only.
It could be as simple as the son of Christ was burried in the shroud. And the impression left was as God wanted it to be because he is alive and well… It’s called faith ladies and gentlemen. For anyone who knows that He has risen and well, need no scientific explanation. Holla.
hello
I am a forensic student and Im wondering if anyone knows wheter there has been an specific court cases related to the Shroud of Turin and pollen or spores?
WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE INTERESTED IN HIS BLOOD TYPE. WHAT GOOD IS THAT GOING TO HELP US. WEALL WILL SOMEDAY FIND OUT THESE THINGS . THIS BODY WILL BE GONE AND A NEW ONE WE WILL HAVE. JESUS HAD A NEW BODY BECAUSE BECAUSE THE BODY SAYS SO. HE DID STILL HAVE THE MARKS OF THE NAILS .I DO BELIEVE THAT THESE PEOPLE DID HAVE A DEATH EXPERANCE..JESUS IS REAL, AND HEAVEN AND THERE IS A HELL. FORGET ABOUT THE BLOOD TYPE AND JUST BELIEVE IN JESUS.
