The Worldwide Conspiracy to Ignore Vincenzo Giovanni Ruello

May 20, 2013 42 comments

imageVincenzo Giovanni Ruello (aka Vinny Pop) writes to me frequently, usually by trying to add irrelevant comments on this site. He has, as he puts it, developed a new scientific method which enables him to see all manner of things: Jesus with open eyes, or Jesus with missing toes, etc. etc. etc. He then posts videos on YouTube that are supposed to show what he sees. Back in 2011, I posted some material about his claims but stopped doing so because I found that it contributed nothing to the discussion here (search Vinny in the blog’s search box). Moreover, I didn’t want to post anything more that I felt was potentially embarrassing to him. But today, at his insistence, I am posting a comment from him and below it something from a single-posting blog he recently created. He writes:

I have revealed the signature of Jesus Christ ,the face of a lion, a holograph from the second face back which has undergone a second stage processing. http://gloria.tv/?media=446254

I hope you show this as a special separate feature, if not it means you have no conscience at all

sincerely Vincenzo Giovanni Ruello

Okay, Vincenzo, I have a conscience. Thanks for unburdening me. Is it true, as I understand it, that your secret method is filming a severely tilted LCD screen with a digital camera? Why is it that I can’t see any of the things you see? How can what you see and others not see be proof of anything?

Vinny, does the following from you shed any light on the problem? It is from your new blog, Second Face Shroud Turin Decoded Revealed:

In 2011 the experimental film scientist Vincenzo Giovanni Ruello processed the relic known as the Vatican Veronica Veil using AFM, Angular Filming Magnification a process he developed in 2009, an advanced form of negative film processing. What he revealed is startling.

[ . . . ]

Well known Shroud experts who have seen the image have attempted to slow down the awareness campaign commenced by Ruello using tactics of ridicule because unlike them Ruello is an amateur experimental film maker not qualified. Peer review journals have refused to publish his findings on the Veronica for this very reason but Ruello has relentlessly distributed videos and photographs world wide. In April 2013 Ruello used the same filming tecnique to process the ”second face” originaly discovered in 2002 during the restoration by Fanti and Maggiolo. It appears on the back of the Shroud as red marks stains, very faint which are thought by many to be spill over leakage from the front. On processing the ”second face” Ruello revealed an alive Jesus with both His eyes open.

The profound image has left the earlier Shroud experts who discounted his findings on the Vatican Veronica Veil now speechless as the photographic image has been provan to be real, no elements of photoshop or CGI manipulation exist. So we now have the situation where an amateur film scientist has revealed 2 alive faces of Christ from the Vatican Veronica 8th century Rome first appearance and the alive face of Christ on the back of the Shroud of Turin. These Shroud experts are making a lot of money from the mystery they have been selling to the public. Many books are written and the Vatican  does gain immense power and control by not informing the innocent of all the facts.

. . .  But discoveries such as Ruello’s if truly from God cannot be stopped by corrupt soul selling individuals and powers attempting to not tell the world that evidence authenticating the Shroud has been discovered and that physical evidence of the resurrection has been discovered on the back of the Shroud of Turin. Thank God for the internet.

I suspect that I’m thought to be part of the conspiracy to keep the world uninformed about Vincenzo Giovanni Ruello’s work because I block frequent promotional comments of gibberish. Ridicule? That is why I wasn’t posting.

In all fairness I have written to him and asked him to describe Angular Filming Magnification and explain why he thinks he is not generating visual patterns and noise which fuels his imagination. He has never answered.

Okay Vincenzo, you got your wish.

Tinfoil Hats All Around, Quickly

imageDr. Joseph S Maresca reviews Past Lives of the Rich and Famous by Sylvia Browne in Hearst’s Seattle Post-Intelligencer:

Browne discusses Elizabeth Taylor who lived 47 times before. Taylor was Anata of Babylonia. In the 1500s, she was a member of a Benedictine convent in Switzerland. She lived as Marie Lilliane and died at 89 years of age. Browne explains that specific memories of past lives are on the other side. But are they?

The story of Mother Teresa is equally fascinating. Browne relates how the Mother Teresa lived in the person of Leah during the time of Christ. Leah came to know Jesus Christ through the Apostle Luke. In addition, she attended the Sermon on the Mount. Mother Teresa lived through her 54th and last incarnation according to the author.

And there is this:

There may be remnants of Christ’s DNA on the Shroud of Turin. If DNA traces could be found on the Shroud of Turin, the DNA could be dated to the time of Christ. These aspects should be addressed by Browne.

Yeah, right,  that’s a good idea.

In addition, the crucifixion itself was an event bathed in blood. If blood stains could be recovered from Golgatha Hill, these stains could be used to create a Christ-like human form in the laboratory. The implications of this event would be very controversial for the Judeo-Christian world.

Ya think?

Browne’s notions could be put to the test in other ways. For instance, there would have to be specific burial plots of two people thought to have identical past lives. Samples of the DNA would have to be tested after exhuming the bodies. If the samples matched, the claims might be proven. Such an experiment would require the approval of medical science due to the ethical and moral issues inherent in conducting such tests.

Science? Fiction? Science Fiction? None of the genre’s quite fit, do they? What’s sad is this was published in a paper with an online circulation of 4 million people; and some people will believe this stuff.

The Urantia Book Again

February 9, 2013 4 comments

imageYodr777 posted in Christian Forums:

I’ve previously argued in favor of the Shroud of Turin on this forum, yet I don’t believe it is a necessary evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. Given that the shroud has been carbon dated to the middle ages, added to the fact that the first historical mention of the shroud wasn’t until the middle ages, I’m comfortable with believing that it may be a forgery. However, that would raise the question of how the remarkable image on the shroud originated. I find the possibility of it being produced by camera obscura very interesting.

I personally believe in the historicity of Jesus’ resurrection because of the Urantia Book,

Whoa! Full stop! The Urantia Book? . . .

which includes an eight hundred page biography of the life and teachings of Jesus that claims to be given by the apostle Andrew’s guardian angel. The Urantia Book’s account of the resurrection is far more detailed than the New Testament, providing more appearances of Jesus to various believers.

Forgoing the full 800 pages (no I have not read it), I’ll opt for a summary from Urantia News – Verifying History and Science in The Urantia Book:

The Urantia Book says the angels performed a time-accelerated elemental disintegration of Jesus’ body and this has intriguing correlations with the image found on the Shroud of Turin. It says that Jesus’ resurrected body was like that of angels and that his physical body still lay in the tomb after the resurrection and that the angels were given permission, upon request of an archangel, to cause the accelerated dissolution of his physical remains. This permission was requested and granted so that they would not have to witness the decay of his body. The correlations have primarily to do with the superficial nature of the image and current theories about corona discharge and nuclear medicine imaging . Additionally, there are intriguing correlations related to the Sudarium of Oviedo, a face napkin said to have covered Jesus’ face as part of the burial process.

I wonder if Fanti and Jackson know about this. I recall another criticism from a UBer. This time the topic was evolution. Someone who called himself Nautiusmaxi wrote to me, “When you mention Darwin you’re showing your ignorance as humans were not addressed in the Origin of the Species.” Maybe that was because Darwin knew (according to Wikipedia):

According to The Urantia Book, multi-colored human races originated suddenly in one generation and in one family, producing brothers and sisters that variously turned blue, yellow, red, green, orange, and indigo when exposed to sunlight. Their offspring subsequently favored the parent color. Later, Adam and Eve produced a violet race. In the book’s account, the blue, yellow, and red races were considered “primary”, and the green, orange, and indigo “secondary”. The green and orange races were driven to extinction, and the rest mixed over time.

I have no problem with whatever someone chooses to believe. That is just as true if someone is a follower of Urantia Book, an Atheist or a member of any number of religions and religious cults with which I disagree. If they publish and promote on the internet, then I am entitled to criticize in the same venue.

Nautiusmaxi had said, why “insult people who just might be on your side.”

It’s not about sides. It is about truth and if the truth is ultimately that I was wrong and the shroud is a fake, then that is the side I’m on.

Having said all that. I don’t put any stock in the Urantia Book. I don’t want anyone other than UB followers thinking the shroud is real because of this book. Yodr777 must not have read the full 800 pages or he wouldn’t have doubted the shroud. Right?

This is the sort of thing that hurts the reputation of shroud science

December 23, 2012 2 comments

The first thing you notice is the headline that reads, “EXCLUSIVE: Newly Published Images of the Shroud of Turin.” That exact headline appears in dozens of blogs and so do the images. So much for exclusive. The second thing you notice is the gobbledygook. When I see words like “proprietary technology” in this context I immediately think of the proprietary cure-all formulations of snake oil sold by peddlers from the back of mule drawn wagons.

imageThis is the sort of stuff that hurts the reputation of shroud science. This notion that the eyes are sometimes closed and sometime open or that Jesus is pictured with King Herod on Jesus’ abdomen is extreme pareidolia mixed with a wild imagination using highly manipulated photographs: nothing more.

The exclusive article reads:

Ron Stewart has consulted with law enforcement and various museums, including the Brooklyn Museum, in regards to analyzing photos and actual artifacts with his proprietary imaging technology, which is called Infinite Macroscopic Microscopic Imaging (IMMI).   The IMMI technology is a proprietary technology that in part uses at least three different combined imaging technologies, known in scientific terms as :  ”Preliminary, estimated, and extremely advanced Deconvolution Wavelet Transforms”.  In layman’s terms this simply means: “when an image is distorted, blurred, and unclear, that in part these three combined technologies will bring the image into appropriate resolution, clarity, and focus,”.

Mr. Stewart  holds a Doctorate of Theology in World History ; Emphasis On Historical Archaeology, and also has a Ph.D. in Theoretics.  Additionally he holds a Bachelor degree in Electronics with a focus in Imaging and Photography.  The culmination of these various degrees has resulted in the development of his specialized form of imaging and analysis.  For more information on his images of the Shroud, please visit his website at www.biblical-images.com.’

Get me some documentation that explains how to really unblur a picture or get me a letter from the director of the Brooklyn Museum telling me that Stewart is on to something and I’ll give this some real consideration. Well at least I’ll look at the pictures again.

Tinfoil Hat x 2 Warning: Prince William is a Counterfeit

December 4, 2012 2 comments

imageJohn(?) writes:

I don’t want to sound proud of boastful, but I am quite certain that I am one of the witnesses of Revelation (John the Baptist).

Sooner or later these end-of-time Internet prophets discover the Shroud of Turin. Now, we learn that Prince William is not the antichrist but actually a counterfeit antichrist. Got that? Of course, that makes perfect sense if the shroud is fake, which we know because it can now be revealed that Leonardo da Vinci was Jewish. We know this because of Jewish symbolism in his art (this makes him also Eskimo, Arabic and a Chicago Cubs fan, as well).

imageIt also means the Pope is Jewish. No, that is his miter with the six-pointed star and not a tinfoil hat that he is wearing.

No, really! I read only enough of the posting, Counterfeit Antichrist Prince William Cloned From The Shroud Of Turin? | johnthewitness to allow the coffee maker to finish:

Satan has concocted a brilliant plan based upon the idea that Prince William is the antichrist, cloned from the Shroud of Turin. As we will later show in this article, Prince William is merely a counterfeit antichrist.

clip_image001The pictorial evidence says it all.

To fully appreciate this, read Kelly Kearse’s comment, daveb’s response, and Kelly’s rejoinder to any earlier posting (and follow the recommended link):

Kelly: The Shroud, the Pantocrator, there’s even a reference to the Pray Manuscript (and the lack of visible thumbs/fingers)

http://getthetruthout.icyboards.net/printthread.php?tid=1150

Before pasting in your browser, pull your tin-foil hat down nice & snug (heavy duty foil is recommended); the evidence of AB blood is often mentioned in related stories as a clincher.

I’ve always thought Chris Martin (lead singer of Coldplay) might be worth a closer inspection as well…Viva La Vida

daveb: Thanks for this Kelly. Defiitely tin-hat territory. I also needed a tightly-bound cincture to avoid excessive side-splitting from laughter. Is this “getthetruth” site known for sustained tongue-in-cheek irony, or is it intended to be serious conspiracy theory? Much of it seems dependent on commonly available picture morphing software – you can morph any image to any other. I see they’re also demonising the Royal Navy insignia.

Kelly: To be honest, I am not really sure, but best I can tell it’s serious conspiracy theory, even though admittedly, the “clues” about the thumbs/fingers in relation to the Pray Codex took it to a whole new level. Searching for information on AB blood typing and the Shroud, the most common related subjects that consistently show up are the Sudarium of Oviedo (makes sense) and the Prince William connection with the Shroud of Turin (huh?). There is now actually a novel based on cloning Jesus from a sample taken from the Sudarium, a trilogy series no less. I was a bit surprised when I first saw just how prominent this idea with Prince William was (on images/you tube): cloning and the Shroud intertwined with blood typing, some wild stuff. I’m old enough to remember when such important and cryptic information was only revealed to the public via the latest Beatles’ album cover…

Face of the Man of the Shroud of Turin Encoded in Sistine Chapel?

November 3, 2012 30 comments

imageThis appears in the Christian Newswire press release service. I can’t see that it has been picked up by anyone, even bloggers. So here it is. Enjoy.

I must admit, however, that I can’t see anything that I’m supposed to see in the referenced paper: The Face of the Man of the Shroud of Turin Is Encoded Within the Sistine Chapel Frescoes.

Is it just me or is this a case of seeing elephants in the clouds?

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 31, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ — Investigative researcher, Philip E. Dayvault, of Raleigh, NC, discovered in 2003 that the Last Judgment fresco and a portion of the Ceiling fresco by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel contain the encoded, and "hidden in plain view," image of the face of the Man of the Shroud of Turin, the traditional burial cloth of Jesus Christ. This forensic conclusion is based on distinctive pattern recognition, the detection of identifying individual characteristics and a progressive overlay comparison of both images. It is also concluded, based on abundant forensic circumstantial, documentary and physical evidence, and coupled with logic and reason, that Michelangelo unknowingly painted the encoded image within the Sistine Chapel, and which contains individual characteristics consistent with those from the Shroud face. Michelangelo never saw the encoded image…it only became observable with the advent of photography in the early 1800′s; and then specifically with the first photograph of the Shroud taken in 1898 by Seconda Pia! However, exactly how the encoded image was made remains unknown. This new data is being released to commemorate the 500th-year anniversary of Michelangelo’s completion of the ineffable Ceiling in the Sistine Chapel on October 31, 1512, and also the presentation of the Ceiling to the people of Rome, and ultimately to the world, on November 1, 1512, All Saints Day.

Importantly, the two frescoes were painted at different times in history. The Ceiling, (not shown in this photo), extending down to the top of the "eye brows," was painted from 1508 to 1512; and the Last Judgment on the Altar Wall, depicting "the face" from the eyes-down, was painted from 1535 to 1541. During the interim years, there were three different popes, each of whom could have commissioned anyone to paint the Altar Wall. Michelangelo was in such pain and agony from painting the Ceiling that he didn’t "know" if he would be alive the next day, much less, 23 years in the future.

Dayvault, a former Special Agent and Physical Science Technician with the FBI, utilized the preferred and scientifically accepted forensic principles and methodologies for facial review and identification. This research involved painstaking comparisons and iterations of the two images. Slight scaling of the Shroud Face was required to accommodate for the parallax, focal distance and lens variations present in each available Sistine Chapel photograph. This incredible image, shown below via a Progressive Overlay Comparison, has been critically reviewed by several Shroud colleagues and a forensic expert who concur with Dayvault’s conclusions. Some of the numerous individual features include the "Epsilon-like," or "reversed-3," bloodstain image around Jonah (not depicted in this photo), the off-centered bifurcated beard, the eye orbits, the circular cheek wound, unique chin markings, etc.

Tinfoil Hat Warning: Crop Circles Revisited

October 21, 2012 Leave a comment

imageI thought this had been forgotten after it was widely reported in 2010 in the fringe media and, of course, The Daily Mail. Jesus or someone or some “being” is particularly interested in communicating with us in 250 foot wide crop circles – tortillas and toast not being large enough – or someone is very ingenious in using the image from the Shroud of Turin in creating this prank. Or is it that “false patterns” can be more suggestive and deceptive than we like to think.

Well, the WonderInSpirit blog has reminded us with The Cosmic Weavers of The Wave. This video (below) is good. But this one (link only) does a better job of showing the crop circles up close.

Anything concrete or intelligent?

Burgh Island in Devon: Key to World Peace and the Mystery of the Shroud

October 18, 2012 3 comments

clip_image001It must have been a slow news day at The Herald’s office in Plymouth last week. Sorry this story is so late. I might have missed it altogether had I not been in my doctor’s waiting room where the only reading material was last summer’s South Carolina Fishing Quarterly and the water company’s Environmental Impact Statement for 2007. So out came the old iPad. You can read this summary or the whole article (if there is nothing else to read):

Burgh Island has an air of mystery to it . . .  one local resident is convinced the tidal island near the mouth of Devon’s River Avon holds the answer . . . to the greatest mystery of all time. Ted Harrison reports

There are bodies hidden on Burgh Island, Michael Goldsworthy says, although the exact location he is keeping to himself for now. He has however informed the Torquay coroner of his suspicions as, alongside the human remains, he believes there could also be priceless treasure.

[ . . . ]

And Mr Goldsworthy makes one more even more extraordinary claim that could place Burgh Island at the centre of a controversy that would horrify Christians and rock the core teaching of the church. . . . ‘

[ . . . ]

Mr Goldsworthy’s claims concerning Burgh Island are based on his interpretation of a 1,500-year-old Latin riddle attributed to a monk named Melkin. . . .

[ . . . ]

Understanding Melkin, Mr Goldsworthy claims, involves an understanding of ley lines. These are, supposedly, invisible lines of energy in the landscape, which had been known to the Neolithic inhabitants of Britain and were rediscovered by amateur archaeologist Alfred Watkins almost 100 years ago.

They can, it is said, be plotted on maps by linking ancient and holy sites or detected on the ground by dowsers. The St Michael line, for instance, runs for 364.5 land miles from near Land’s End to East Anglia.

By drawing ley lines on maps of southern Britain and examining the geometric shapes created, Mr Goldsworthy says that he can make sense of the ancient clues. . . .

The last two paragraphs say it all:

What undermines Mr Goldsworthy’s claims, as far as the sceptics and mainstream scholars are concerned, are their all-embracing nature. To suggest Joseph of Arimathea is on the island is one thing, but to say so is Jesus, the Holy Grail, Templar treasure, possibly the Ark of the Covenant, that his discoveries solve the mystery of the Turin Shroud – and Leonardo knew all about it – might stretch the credulity of even the most ardent conspiracy theorist.

Ya think?

And that’s not all. Once the tomb is unveiled and the Ark of the Covenant and the body of Jesus are found together “it may bring peace to the nations”, says Goldsworthy. To solve several of the world’s greatest religious mysteries and resolve the Middle East crisis all in one. Worth a try, surely?

Insane Ancient Achievements or Modern Insanity?

July 27, 2012 1 comment

imageAnd the Shroud of Turin is one of these? 10 Insane Ancient Achievements that Science Can’t Explain over at the blog of the Chromographics Institute (tinfoil hat warning area).

Out-of-place artifact (OOPArt) is a term coined by American naturalist and cryptozoologist Ivan T. Sanderson for an object of historical, archaeological, or paleontological interest found in a very unusual or seemingly impossible context that could challenge conventional historical chronology. The term “out-of-place artifact” is rarely used by mainstream historians or scientists. Its use is largely confined to cryptozoologists, proponents of ancient astronaut theories, and paranormal enthusiasts….

In this article we present our selection of Top 10 OOPArts. There are many more (you can find them by exploring our website).

The Shroud is number 8. Nothing new, just screen scraped text from other websites. Fun to read while sipping morning coffee.

The Resurrect Christ Foundation and the Shroud of Turin

March 20, 2012 2 comments

imageThe good news according to BC Musician Magazine is that the band has issued a second CD. The better news is that that is all. Whew! According to the band’s website:

The Resurrect Christ Foundation is much more than your average post-voodoo shock-folk band.  The Foundation is actually a not-for-profit society advocating for the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.  Their primary avenues of advocacy include raising funds, petitioning The Bilderberg Group, and hosting cultural awareness circles.

Micro-biological technologies have progressed such that we are now able to clone mammals.  Further, the Turin Shroud contains sufficient genetic material to allow for a cloning of Jesus of Nazareth (much like dinosaurs in Jurassic Park).  The only thing holding us back is the resistance of the political and business elite who understand that the return of the Christ would threaten their earthly power.  But, the Scriptures are very clear – “in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:44).

The Holy Ghost Communications Channel and the Shroud of Turin

imageEnjoy and be sure to wear your tinfoil hat:

Bear in mind the Holy Spirit does not answer random questions, anything involving lottery numbers, how to increase your monetary wealth and position, who is in hell or who is heaven or anything

I don’t think you are going to want to watch this whole video. Watch maybe the first minute and slide on down to the last minute. Or just read the narrative below. Forget all the other science. We got ourselves a shroud-o-meter.

The Holy Spirit has confirmed the shroud of Turin is genuine on a HZ Frequency Communication Channel. But don’t take my word for it, you can verify this for yourself personally in the comfort of your own home. In this day and age of expert forgers, credit card scams and identity theft to have a sense of doubt and uncertainty is completely understandable. That is why I made this video, so you can see for yourself a demonstrated reality using scientific equipment that does not have a hidden motive and simply reports the truth. None of the footage has been contrived or faked in any way. Go on google and type in “ELF Sensor by Steve Rouch” to learn how to build your own sensor. There is nothing like this on Ebay or anywhere else. I am a artist, author and independent reseacher, I am NOT selling electronics. I do not benefit in any monetary sense of you purchasing or building an ELF sensor. For the person who does not believe the shroud of Turin is genuine I suggest asking the Holy Spirit yourself. This is going to require opening up a bag of courage and prepare yourself for the biggest surprise of your life. To communicate with the Holy Spirit of the Living God! You may be the next person reading a digital read-out on an electro-magnetic field sensor of the truth you so urgently seek. Bear in mind the Holy Spirit does not answer random questions, anything involving lottery numbers, how to increase your monetary wealth and position, who is in hell or who is heaven or anything

It is enough to make you want to become a skeptic.

January 16, 2012 9 comments

I posted this just a little over a year ago on November 7, 2010. I called it, “Thoughts for a Sunday Morning: Tinfoil Hats.” I was reminded of it today by two people: 1) a Jesuit priest friend of mine who is thrilled that ColinB (aka sciencebod), a skeptic who is a real scientist, has joined in the discussions here in this blog and 2) someone who inquired about those crop circles in England that looked something like the face of the man in the Shroud of Turin. So here goes again:

It is enough to make you want to become a skeptic.

In recent years, we have seen a world of craziness when it comes to skepticism about the Shroud of Turin. Perhaps none was as historically dyspeptic as a great conspiracy theory woven by Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince: Leonardo da Vinci created the images on the Shroud.

image This wasn’t their only conspiracy theory. In The Stargate Conspiracy we learn that the CIA and MI5 are actively manipulating a secret cult of powerful and rich leaders, including leading scientists who believe that they are in direct contact with extraterrestrial intelligent beings from the star Sirius. These extraterrestrial beings are claiming to be the gods of ancient Egypt, the very gods responsible for an image of a face on Mars. Why are secret American and British agents, with help from NASA, doing this? To create a new insidious mind-control religion. As icing on the cake P&P tell us:

We reveal the ground-breaking research that provides a plausible answer to the most enduring questions about the ancient Egyptians’ achievements and beliefs – and, explosively, uncover the true nature of the gods themselves . . .

In How Leonardo da Vinci Fooled History we learn from P&P that the greatest painter and polymath in all of history secretly invented photography and then created a gigantic camera obscura. He discovered how to make film out of linen, how to chemically develop pictures and fix them. He was, after all, they remind us, a genius. He understood the camera obscura. So did many educated people, even for several centuries before Leonardo. He had experimented with chemistry. That, too, was a passion of many educated people in his day. Moreover, the authors tell us, he was, “[a] known joker, conjuror and illusionist, and a Church-hating heretic.” Is all of this not proof enough? Not even if it were true, which it isn’t.

A big problem for Picknett and Prince was the fact that Leonardo was born a century after the shroud was exhibited in Lirey. It was therefore necessary that he have an opportunity to replace one fake shroud with another fake shroud of his own making. He might have been welcome at the Savoy family palace, P&P tell us. After all they may have owned one of his drawings. Not only did he do all these things, say the conspiracy duo, he dabbed on blood in all the right places. He replaced the head of the crucifixion model with a photograph of his own head. P&P figured this out by comparing the head on the Shroud to a drawing of Leonardo and found, generally speaking, that the eyes and the nose and the mouth of both men were all in about the same place on their respective faces.

There were other strange skeptical theories about the image. There was the Shadow Shroud, a dust painting of a corpse lit by candlelight in a tomb, and another photograph theory sans Leonardo. On and on, theory after theory.

But hasn’t that been the problem of the proponents of authenticity, as well? To some extent, yes. You could say ‘yes’ and leave it at that. But there has been a stark difference. Proponents of authenticity always seemed a bit more reserved, somber, tentative. They spoke mostly of hypotheses and philosophical notions like Occam’s Razor. They sought and obtained publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

image The skeptics, on the other hand, at least some of them, tried not to get too close to science. According to Joe Nickell, not being a scientist is advantageous as researcher or investigator. In an article entitled, “An Interview With Joe Nickell,” Eric Krieg of the Philadelphia Association for Critical Thinking, describes Nickell (using Nickell’s own words) as an “investigator” and formerly an “undercover detective, teacher, draft dodger, river boat manager, carnival promoter, magician and spokesperson.”

“Joe [Nickell] impressed on me the difference between being a scientist and an investigator,” Kreig continued:

Joe seems to have no significant credentials . . .  Joe remarks that a scientist tends to approach an investigation from the narrow view of his own specialty – where as a ‘jack of all trades’ would come up with more avenues of investigation.

But the skeptics always sounded confident and certain. “It happened this way,” they seemed to say. That sounds admirable, of course, until you realize that that no two skeptics were saying the same thing.

Lest you think that such nuttiness is reserved for skeptics, it ain’t so. The tinfoil hat crowd has arrived from wherever, perhaps from the star Sirius, to tell the world that the Shroud is real. It’s hard to pin down when all this started, but the publication of Frank Tipler’s The Physics of Christianity seems defining. Tipler is a professor of Mathematical Physics at Tulane University, a theoretical physicist, a quantum cosmologist. But . . .! In his newest book, The Physics of Christianity, he suggests that the Shroud of Turin is the key for figuring out how to save the universe from ultimate collapse so that brilliant minds can build and sustain a computer simulation of our past lives, including consciousness and free will, thereby giving us immortality. Heaven is a virtual reality. There is more. Here I must quote from Martin Gardner’s review of Tipler’s book to touch on one other aspect of the Shroud:

All conservative Christians believe Jesus was free of the original sin that resulted from the Fall, which has been passed on to all descendants of Adam and Eve. Catholics think that Mary, too, escaped original sin. (It is a Catholic heresy to reject the Immaculate Conception.) How does Tipler explain the way Jesus and Mary differ in this manner from all other humans?

Tipler’s answer is wonderful. There must be genes that carry original sin! This could be verified some day, he writes, by first identifying the gene. Thus, failing to find evidence of the gene on the Shroud of Turin would explain the sinlessness of both Jesus and his mother.

(I am, dear reader, doing my best to keep a straight face while I summarize Tipler’s convictions.)

image image There is, of course – I say ‘of course’ because everyone follows crop circle reports – the account, just this year, 2010, of two crop circles in Wickham Green, just South of the M4 highway, near Hungerford, in Buckinghamshire, in England, in the United Kingdom. There are images in each of the crop circles. If you overlay these two images after flipping one of them around left to right, and you squint, it is obviously the face seen on the Shroud of Turin. This discovery left one pundit to suggest that there were only two possible explanations: either extraterrestrial beings – may I suggest Picknett and Prince’s friends from the star Sirius – are trying to tell us something or some very talented pranksters used the image on the Shroud for some chicanery.

More recently we have been entertained by a pseudo-chemistry and pseudo-history that proposes that the shroud was a Jewish tallit. Now there is a soon to be released book that argues that the images are quantum bio-holograms. If that is not enough there is a published report from The Urantia Book crowd:

image It [=UB] says that Jesus’ resurrected body was like that of angels and that his physical body still lay in the tomb after the resurrection and that the angels were given permission, upon request of an archangel,  to cause the accelerated dissolution of his physical remains. This permission was requested and granted so that they would not have to witness the decay of his body. The correlations have primarily to do with the superficial nature of the image and current theories about corona discharge and nuclear medicine  imaging.

It helps to understand that the UBers believe that Jesus was the name that the most senior angel, Michael, the ruler of Nebadon, used, temporarily, after the incarnation and before the resurrection. The administrative angel Gabriel, his second in command, ruled the universe while Michael, a.k.a. Jesus, was visiting this planet. He is currently using the name Michael, not Jesus.

And finally – well for now anyways – from a book called Lost at Sea, we have explanations for errors in the carbon dating that defy human comprehension:

They label this skull fell back into dust in the radiocarbon year 5020 bc where this soul ate the fruit of this tree around the calendar ring—that is 6000 years before Christ rose into light: Here this ancient temple wall fell back into dust, around this soul on this raised mound, these doctors call Broca’s area, named after a brain surgeon, where they discover these tongues of many language begin to speak out through these gates and where they look for the Creator of the word— in this wilderness from this historic cross over  point through time—with the AMS. . . . The image locks in the location where this seed buried in the ground rose up into light and left its image to prove that the AMS can’t count the number of times this ancient body rose up into light and it circled these souls —lost at sea—as shown on the stump . . .

(Yes, AMS stands for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, the method used to date the Shroud of Turin.)

Get out your tinfoil hats. It is only going to continue. It’s enough to want to become a skeptic.

NOTE:  When I originally posted this there was a comment that expanded on and sought to clarify Frank Tipler’s explanations. That comment can be found here.

Shroud of Turin Tinfoil hat alert

January 4, 2012 2 comments

A commenter summarizes part of the message of this tape:

Jesus is back, now as Yahweh since 1944, its ABOUT TIME for the Whole World to know of Christ’s return and the wonderful wonders Yahweh brings to Humanity and Earth! These are most amazing times! Yahweh and Asherah you two are the best!

This is an Address to Barry Schwortz, Russ Breault, Dan Porter, Dame Isabel Paczek on Shroud of Turin on YouTube.

I fell asleep twice trying to watch it despite the fact that it is addressed to me, as well as friends and colleagues.

When it comes to the Shroud of Turin he doesn’t know his backside from a knight in shining armor

December 3, 2011 45 comments

imageDonald, who runs Wisdomblogs.com, after quite a bit of picture show-and-tell, writes in his blog:

The picture of the Shroud of Turin is one of a medieval man both in and out of Armour, the beard style on the man represents the same period of time as does the sword.

He is referring to the two images of the man on the shroud. The whole world acknowledges that these are front and back views. Donald doesn’t think so. To him the back view  (pictured here) is another frontal view of the same man but in full medieval armor. He is resting his hands on the guard of the hilt of his sword.

It’s true, you can see almost anything you want in the images on the shroud if you have imagination and are willing to confuse image color with bloodstains, dirt, creases, burn marks, water stains, and weaving anomalies. They cannot be distinguished one from another in the picture that Donald used. It is a single-color colorized version of the black and white photograph by Giuseppe Enrie taken in 1931. (Blood, image, dirt, water stains, etc. are all the same brown color; blue after Donald reversed it in his negative to positive software). The picture Donald used was from Wikipedia and is only 613 pixels wide, not very useful for careful analysis.

He continues:

Also the man appears fully dressed to me, there is no way he is naked.

At the very earliest this kind of picture can only come from medieval times,  the fact that the armour and sword are shown together  proves that and that I know of, there was no such armour during the life of Jesus.

Theory 1 – In the old medieval days somebody had either a wall-rug or a floor-rug made, and the shroud was nothing more than part of the backing/dust cover for this rug.

The rug was then laid against a granite wall or floor which as everybody knows has slight radioactive properties, from this comes the photographic properties of the cloth.

Perhaps it was some other form of slightly radioactive rock, I need to do some more research on this.

Theory 2 – The shroud has been manipulated with radiative reflections spreading  in an angular direction equal to the refractive angle of the  light reflecting off the sword. The method used was common at the beginning of photography … The very first form of modern silk printing ( a very crude explanation,  I shall do some research first then I shall explain this further)

Then after referring to an article by Barrie Schwortz (he refers to it as A great article on the photographic properties of the cloth – which it is, BTW), he continues after obviously misunderstanding much of what Barrie has written:

Secondo Pio (sic), the photographer who first took the original shroud pictures, used two electric flash lights of 1000 candela each. His first exposures failed and he had to return for a second try.

I think enough is enough, the point is well made, whatever else it might show and however it might have been made and even regardless of its age, the Shroud of Turin does not reflect the face of Jesus.

But why should anybody believe me when it is so much more fun to exaggerate the issue and have millions of Catholics pray to what is obviously just a piece of common cloth.

Regardless …..  that a common scientific issue should be regarded as a religious icon despite the fact that the second commandment tells us not to worship such things is an affront to Christian religious thought.

Why not just give them a rag doll and tell them it was Jesus’ very own G-man?

When the posting got to comments:

Martin Lack, a Brit who writes another blog called Lack of Environment, wrote:

“Like I just said to you, Donald, you cannot debunk a 2hr television programme without watching it to see what new evidence they present…”

To which Donald replied:

“No, but I can debunk the shroud by showing the complete picture of the shroud and not just half of it. I’m sorry, as I said ,,, it is not Jesus.”

We are certainly going to wait for the additional research from Donald. And if you want to see what Martin Lack said in full, click on I just said to you. The short of it is:

Donald, you may be interested to track down “The Real Face of Jesus” on you tube. In total, it is a 2-hour programme (minus adverts probably no more than 90 minutes) . . . .

But do scroll up and read the entire posting. It is called “Syria – The game’s afoot.”  This guy Donald has some strong opinions – or is it just a blogging personality – and an apparent propensity to ignore real research. I would hope that he would so some real reading at Barrie’s site. Or here. Or at www.shroudstory.com.

From the I Didn’t Know That Dept: Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince Appeared in The Da Vinci Code

November 18, 2011 2 comments

imageFrom an interview with Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince by James Clark in England’s The Morton Report:

You might not realise it but you’ve probably seen Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince before. They’re there as passengers on the double-decker bus taking Robert Langdon (played by Tom Hanks) to London’s Temple Church in the film adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, and their presence in the scene was no accident. Rather, it was an acknowledgement of that story’s debt to their research.

The interview just blows some dust off old, meaningless conspiracy theory reporting. The only thing passing for news is this:

[Q] In the light of your latest research, will you be revising your previous book on the Shroud, or do you have plans to bring out a new book?

[A] We’re hoping there will be a revised and updated edition of our Shroud book early next year.

Again?

Another Tinfoil Hat Alert

November 10, 2011 Leave a comment

imageThis stuff is absolutely nuts. And what does Barrie Schwortz, Isabel Piczek and the Shroud of Turin have to do with this? From his blog, L.A. Marzulli posts a promo for Watchers 3 – Fingerprints of the Supernatural!

L.A. Marzulli, author of the Cosmic Chess Match and popular guest on talk shows such as Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, hosts the third installment of the Watchers series. All over the world mysterious and unexplained events continue with little or no explanation from our governments or media. People are seeing multiple suns or hearing strange, anomalous sounds. NASA’s SOHO images seem to be revealing unknown objects around the sun. Planet X/Nibiru – could there be large unseen forces affecting our solar system? Then there’s the Shroud of Turin, which may be the most probed, enigmatic artifact on the planet. L.A. talks with two of the premier experts: recently knighted The Right Honorable Barrie Schwortz, whose photographs of the Shroud are iconic, and Dame Isabel Piczek, muralist and particle physicist. With the unprecedented Arab Spring, how does the unrest in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Jordan affect Israel? Is this uprising of millions of people being fanned by unseen supernatural forces? Later, the world experts weigh in on the Torah Codes, explaining how science and an understanding of ancient Hebrew are both required to get the best results. What new updates have been discovered by Dr. Roger Leir? Have so-called “alien implants” become more inscrutable and is there evidence that the technology may be ramping up for some unknown purpose? L.A. Marzulli will interview the experts on each topic. Watchers 3 has the most impressive line-up so far in the series.

imageimageYou can order the Watchers 3. While you are at it why not order The Alien Interviews and this great T shirt so everyone will know that you’re a nut too.

The La-la Land Side of Shroud of Turin Research

October 11, 2011 2 comments

imageIn my opinion, nothing hurts the credibility of legitimate scientific and historical Shroud of Turin research than linking it with talk about UFOs, crop circles, etc. I’ve criticized Andrew Silverman for past radio interviews. It really doesn’t matter what he says when he gets on shows like, "Thresholds Into Other Realms: All aspects of the paranormal realm, UFO’s & extraterrestrial life”

Here is the billing for the show on October 9, 2011

On tonight’s show we finish up our Chicago Ghost Conference interviews.  Then we have a truly amazing in-depth discussion about The Shroud Of  Turin with Dr Andrew Silverman.  We discussed the Shroud with Dr. Silverman before, but this time we dig deep into facts…..and what we find is amazing!

Listen to the show on their website; better yet,  download the mp3 file so you can listen to it on a better player with useful timer controls (e.g. Windows Media Player, iTunes, a portable MP3 player, etc.). You need to move forward to about 59 minutes into the show for the telephone interview with Silverman.

Some of it is good. The explanation of the reweaving repair that messed up the carbon dating is excellent. Some of it is really weird; in my opinion la-la land. It is pseudoscience. And for some who care, it is theologically strange. But all of that is my opinion. You need to listen, yourself.

Hopefully most people did not hear the show and it is unlikely that all that many people will listen now (except that I am asking you to do so). But do so with the understanding that the association to the show, to all things paranormal, to UFOs and such, is damaging.

Tinfoil Hat Warning: Are those demons wearing really cool looking shades?

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

imageBut it was the demons on the cloth, with their triangle-shaped eyes and glowing faces that really convinced endtimeswatcher that the Shroud of Turin was a hoax. The text below does not refer to the demons (actually fire damage) but to the Catholic Church and the image of Jesus that stands between the demons:

The involvement in this area from the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) has really placed a stinger on this subject for me not only because they ‘back’ the whole ALIENS are our BROTHERS from SPACE movement but because I believe the religion to be based on the demonic activity of Satan from its very origin. . . . I think the facts speak for themselves. This item was placed into the scenario which adds to the flavor of the Catholic Church’s rendition of what Yeshua/Jesus looks like. Why? Because this Antichrist coming will look EXACTLY like the RCC pictures which were released and in case you didn’t know…the RCC would not allow ANY OTHER pictures to be released of Yeshua/Jesus!

Go ahead, if you want: Shroud of Turin HOAX! « Mystery of the Iniquity

Tinfoil Hat Warning: The Judas and Leonardo da Vinci Connection

September 16, 2011 Leave a comment

imageHow did I miss this; a book about Jesus, not based on scripture, history, archeology or even science but intuition. The author, William H. Kautz of the book, “A New Jesus: Rediscovering His Deeper Teachings Through Intuitive Inquiry,” gives us a definition:

INTUITION is commonly regarded as a flash of insight, a gut feeling or (to some) a psychic hit, but it is actually much more than any of these. It is a universal mental capacity for acquiring knowledge apart from reasoning, memory and the five senses.

And thus we read (warning, don’t read this with a mouth full of coffee):

Jesus’ old friend Judas was bright and Essene trained but misfortunes forced him into tax collecting and association with the Zealots. He greatly loved Jesus and tried hard to exalt and protect him, but his efforts backfired because of his messianic, materialistic expectations. Jesus knew what lay in store for Judas but could not prevent it.

Judas was reborn about 1400 years later as Leonardo Da Vinci and lived out a creative and successful life with his residual remorse. He used his high intellect and dedication to inspire humanity through worldly, proto-scientific and artistic creations.

Jesus was judged under Pilate and crucified. He had the mental capacity to set aside his tormenters and avoid pain on the cross but he chose otherwise out of his compassion for humanity. His final words about abandonment were a devotional phrase from the Psalms. He left his body consciously dying rather quickly from suffocation, and was entombed as stated in the Gospels.

Before being placed in the tomb Jesus’ dead body was wrapped in a long, scented cloth, known later as the Shroud of Turin. This recovered garment is genuine though its recent dating is in error.

Jesus’ resurrection was enabled through regeneration (not revival) of his physical body by a process similar to the way in which certain animals regrow lost limbs. This occurred through a reunification of body mind and spirit, involving pranic (qi, or chi) forces, thus reconstituting the cell structures. The Christ energy or spirit then entered the regenerated body. His regenerated body appeared somewhat youthful to those who saw him.

The appearances of Jesus Christ over the following weeks were physically real, not apparitions.

At least Leonardo didn’t make the shroud. How do I know? Intuition.
